The intended audience is everyone and anyone, but specifically Americans. It is especially important for Norman to enforce his message to the future generations of America.

The overall purpose was to express the importance of our American history and culture in one's identity to the audience indicated above.
Message:
The message, similar to the purpose, of the image, is to enforce the American identity and history upon the youth who will eventually grow to identify themselves as American. We know this because of the battles representing the history of America and the liberty cap staff showing the important American ideals
