Another American ideal is equality. Basically, the concept of equality has been fought for lately based on inequality of certain genders, races, ethnicities, and more.

Another point is with the battles engraved on the stone. Norman shows how even out of school, the children were exposed to American history, or at that time whatever was going on in the present. Today, this message has evolved to realizing how learning about historical events, but never respect them.
